HOW TO: Crochet the treble crochet

– one of the basic crochet stitches

Copy of Beginners (2) (10)

Today I’m going to go through all the necessary steps on how to crochet the “Treble Crochet”. This is one of the most basic crochet stitches & it is also frequently used.

As the name suggests it is a little more complex than the “Single Crochet”  & “Double Crochet”.  You can find an overview of all basic crochet stitches here.

The stitch is going to be explained in a step-by-step picture guide as well as a short soundless video.

Just grab your hook & yarn – let’s start.

Abbreviation:

The “Treble Crochet” is often shortened to “tr” or “tc” in crochet patterns.

The steps:

1. Yarn over

2. Yarn over

3. Draw up a loop

4. Yarn over

5. Pull through 2 loops on hook

6. Yarn over

7. Pull through 2 loops on hook

8. Yarn over

9. Pull through all loops on hook

Starting:

I’m starting this guide strait off without any extra explanation on how to chain or start a row.

However you should have a few chains before you start (read more about chains here).

In the pictures I have chained 10 stitches, turned & crocheted single crochets across the chain row.

I have also chained 3 stitches to get the height of the treble crochet stitch.
